I read this message from Josie Outlaw of the AKA’s on absolutepunk.net today. Thought it would brighten up everyone’s Thanksgiving (especially if you happen to be a touring band in Philadelphia today):

I know what it is like to be on the road for the Holidays. I have spent many Thanksgivings at Denny’s with my band and a feast of Veggie Burgers. This is the first Thanksgiving in years that we are home so, If there are any touring bands that will be in the Philadelphia area for Thanksgiving, they are welcome to come and spend it at our house. I will be making a vegetarian feast and would love to share it with a touring band that has no where to go. I am a good cook so, I promise it will be better than Denny’s!!! So if you know of any touring bands coming through the Philadelphia area on Thanksgiving just write us on myspace and let me know. I would love to have you!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I read yesterday on absolutepunk.net that Coheed and Cambria have announced plans to tour with SlipKnot

I cant even imagine what the SlipKnot fans will do to these guys...

I can't even imagine what the SlipKnot fans will do to these guys...

starting in January of 2009. If that isn’t a horrible idea then I don’t know what is. Who manages these guys? A monkey could have booked a better line-up. Whoever made that decision should be fired from whatever position they hold immediately.

I saw something similar to this happen when Finch toured with H.I.M. and Skindred back in ‘05. The crowd HATED Finch (because when you are a Skindred fan, anything resembling talent frightens you). This was right after Say Hello to Sunshine came out and they were in their weird “progressive” phase (I actually kinda dug the record). But, I guess it just wasn’t goth enough for the H.I.M. fans.

In any case, I am not sure who to feel worse for in this situation: Coheed or their fans. The SlipKnot fans will most likely riot when Coheed goes on and (in typical white trash fashion) beat the living hell out of all the Coheed fans. After which Coheed will be booed off the stage.

Good luck, guys!

UPDATE: Told ya!

I cant decide which one I want to bitchslap more

I can't decide which one I want to bitchslap more

I know, I know…too much blink-182 news for one day. But this actually involves the Jonas Brothers more. As odd as that might sound, get this: Kevin Jonas claims blink-182 is one of his biggest influences. Although he does stress, “I didn’t pay much attention to blink’s behavior, I was just listening to the music.”

Nice save, Kevin. Wouldn’t want all the good Christian parents out there telling their daughters they can’t listen to your band anymore because you’re influenced by the devil’s music. That would almost be as bad as not wearing your “purity ring” anymore. I mean, if you did that, people might think you were (God forbid) having sex before marriage!

But, the best part about this is not the fact that the Jonas Brothers claimed blink as an influence. Nor is it the fact that Kevin Jonas tried to backpedal in the interview to save his good, wholesome “Christian” image. It is the fact that Mark Hoppus caught wind of this interview, posted a link to it on his blog and asked simply, “does this mean we get royalties?”

Here’s to you, Mark. Here’s to you.

Travis and DJ AM.....pre-crash

Travis and DJ AM.....pre-crash

A story came out today that Travis Barker is suing Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel Services, Goodyear and aircraft manufacturer Bombardier Inc. over the September 9th plane crash that he and DJ AM were involved in.

Let me start this by saying that I am a drummer and have been a pretty big fan of Travis for quite some time now. With that said, he has lost a decent amount of my respect today. Granted, I have never been involved in a plane crash nor do I ever wish to be. But it seems to me that crashing is just sort of a possibility you accept when you board a plane….especially one of those scary-ass private planes.

I also found it kind of odd DJ AM was not involved in this lawsuit. The only other person involved in the suit is the bodyguard’s mother. Maybe they’re letting Travis test the waters and see if there is any money to be made out of it. Because you know if he wins everyone else remotely involved in that crash is gonna try and sue them too.

It appears that No Doubt is ending their hiatus and going back on tour. I am actually pretty happy about this. Hopefully I’ll get to see ‘em.

Did Hinder and Nickelback coordinate this? If not, its a pretty funny coincidence that TWO shitty bands that sound eerily similar would make absolutely ridiculous statements on the same day. Not to mention statements that leave them this open to criticism.

One of the only decent rock bands out there...according to Chad Kroeger

One of the only "decent rock bands" out there...according to Chad Kroeger (Source: MTV)

Apparently Mr. Kroeger thinks we should boycott games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band because they are essentially ruining rock music and causing a lack of “decent rock bands.” You can read about it here

I personally have NO IDEA what he is talking about. I hear decent rock bands all the time. Well, except when I turn on the radio and hear bands like…oh I don’t know…NICKELBACK.

Chad Kroeger being concerned about the state of the music industry is like Hitler being concerned about the well-being of the Jewish people.

The latest in an epidemic of parents who refuse to give their children normal names (Source: Getty Images File Photo)

So Ashlee Simpson (finally) gave birth Thursday night to a 7 lb., 11 oz. baby boy. I realize how cute this sounds at first, but wait, there’s more. They named their newborn son Bronx Mowgli Wentz. Now the only cool thing I see about that is that his initials are BMW. Otherwise, Pete Wentz has really disappointed me. Say what you want to about the guy, he’s gotten where he is cause he’s smart and has good business sense. So how can you name your kid after a character from Disney’s The Jungle Book? Even Britney Spears gave her kids quasi-normal names. Minus 20 points.

Why are most of these douchebags wearing sunglasses?

Why are most of these douchebags wearing sunglasses? (Source: MTV)

So according to self-proclaimed rock gods Hinder, the new Guns N Roses is “too artsy” and “overproduced”.

So here’s my question….why did MTV ask them? Who cares what these idiots think? As evidenced by their piss-poor effort they call writing and playing music, they clearly wouldn’t know good music if it smacked the sunglasses off their faces.

These are the same guys that ripped on OK Go for giving a very impressively choreographed performance involving treadmills at the VMAs a few years back. You can read the trash talking they did about OK Go and screamo bands like Thursday here.

Someone needs to do something about the fact that these guys are, first of all, still making shitty music and second of all, still talking trash about people that make GOOD music.
